Once you've made a connection, you can set up an exchange with your partner educator and their classroom! Here are some steps you can follow to set up a successful first exchange:
Message your partner
β Go to the Messages tab on your Connections page. Find the educator you want to have an exchange with and click on their name.
π Write a message saying hello and introducing yourself. Get the conversation started by sharing your objectives for the exchange.
Schedule a call to get to know your partner teacher
π€ Empatico partnerships are most successful when teachers get to know each other and test out their technology before their students meet. Talk with your partner educator to find a time where you can meet without students and plan the exchange together.
π¬ When you and your partner meet, get to know each other and begin planning how your students will meet and collaborate. We suggest you use our Get to Know Your Partner Teacher resource to guide your conversation.
π Together with your partner, explore the Empatico activity library and choose an activity for the virtual exchange. We suggest starting with Get To Know You!
Schedule the exchange
π Look at your shared time availability in the Availability tab on your Connections page. The times in purple are when both you and your partner classroom are available for exchanges.
π Click on a time that works for both of your classrooms to send an invitation to meet. Remember to choose a meeting tool (Zoom, Meet, or Teams) that you and your partner feel comfortable with. Click on "Send exchange request".
Get ready for the exchange
π©βπ« Make sure you do any necessary preparation work with your students ahead of the exchange. Empatico's virtual exchange activity plans will usually contain a "Prepare" section to guide you through this part.
π» Test your technology (computer, speakers, and microphone) the day before the exchange.
Join the exchange
π When it's time for the exchange, go to your Availability tab and click on the exchange. If you're using Empatico Zoom, you will find the link to access the exchange right there.
π€© Enjoy!
