By the second week, you and your partner may want to schedule a time to connect with each other to meet and prepare via live video before your classrooms connect. To send an invitation to connect with your partner teacher for a Teacher Chat, use the calendar button.
When sending an invitation, you will enter the time and date when you want to have the Teacher Chat. For an activity, we recommend trying our Get to Know Your Partner Teacher Exercise with your partner, which includes additional introduction questions and next steps to help you prepare for your classroom exchange.
We understand that it may be difficult to set up a time when both you and your partner are free to meet and plan via live video. If you prefer to plan over chat messages, we recommend using the following questions from our Get to Know Your Partner Teacher Exercise as a guide to help coordinate your future classroom exchange:
- Discuss which Empatico activity you and your partner class will do during your Empatico Exchange (and if you want to do a “Warm-Up” together!).
- Discuss anything that might be helpful for your partner to know about your students. For example, perhaps you have students learning English, with special needs, or who don’t have a media release form, etc.
- Which date and time is best for a classroom exchange?"
- Look at your shared lesson times and pick a date and time when your classes can meet on video! The time zones are converted for you.
If your partner sends you an invitation to connect, it will appear in your messaging feed, where you can accept or decline the invitation.
While preparing for your Teacher Chat, you may also want to check to make sure your technology is working by completing Empatico’s built-in Tech Test. To check your connection, click “Run the Tech Test” in your dashboard.
When it is time to connect with your partner teacher, navigate to you dashboard and select the video button in your messages.
Then select “Teacher Chat” to begin the video call.
